Youth Overnight Program

Experience life on board the last WWII LIberty ship (of the 2,710 built) in its original 1943 configuration

Come down to the SS Jeremiah O'Brien at Pier 45 and show your group that history is more than something you read about in a book or see in old photographs.

When is the overnight program available?

The Youth Overnight Program is available Friday and Saturday year-round, plus selected weekdays.

What types of groups can participate?

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien Overnight Program is open to school groups and scouting groups (Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts), age six and up, as well as other organizations (e.g. church or YMCA groups) which meet our insurance coverage requirements. There is a minimum of 20 participants and a maximum of 64 per event. We do require a minimum adult/child ratio of at least 1:6.

Participants will:

  • Receive overnight accommodations on board the World War II Liberty Ship SS Jeremiah O'Brien, sleeping in bunks (64 total) in an original Liberty Ship Troop berthing configuration.
  • Have the rare opportunity to visit areas of the Liberty Ship with knowledgeable guides to get inside information on systems and equipment.
  • Receive basic instruction on Liberty Ship history and operation through pier side activites.
  • Earn a special patch commemorating the overnight stay.

How do I make reservations?

Simply call the office at (415) 544-0100 and our staff will confirm your date and answer any questions you might have. You can also email us at liberty@ssjeremiahobrien.org (ATTN Overnight Program).

After you have made your reservations, you will be sent a program guide book to help you plan your stay. Besides providing details about the program, a Plan of the Day is included which will provide the framework activities while your group is on board.
